DIY Miu Miu Inspired Sparkle Flannel

Love, love, LOOOOVE this Miu Miu shacket. I am often drawn to juxtaposed aesthetics, so it makes sense that I quickly fell for the bright sparkles on the rough plaid felted wool backdrop. As mush as I loved this piece, I did not love the price tag, AND I needed a shirt to wear for a daytime Christmas event for work, so I decided to create my own. I love ho mine turned out, but I sort of wish I had done a jacket instead. Maybe I’ll recreate this one again next year?

Miu Miu Crystal Embellished Jacket

You will need:

  • Flannel Shirt or Jacket

  • Clear rhinestones in various sizes

  • E-6000 glue or GemTac

Instructions:

Start with your shirt laid out flat and decide how far you want your crystals to go down the shoulders. I used a dress form to hang my shirt from while I worked, which I found much easier, but if you don’t have one, you can put wax paper between the front and back layer of your shirt to keep the glue from soaking through and glueing the front and back together.

Start with your largest stones, placing them closer to the top of the shoulders. If you’re working on a dress form, you can glue both the front and back sides at once. If you’re working flat, make sure the glue is completely dry on one side before working on the next.

After the larger stones are set in place, fill in the spaces between with smaller stones, leaving more space between stones at the bottom of your design and clustering stones closer together at the top close to the shoulders.

I love easy DIY’s that add lots of fun character to simple clothes like flannel shirts. While the shirt was already a beautiful color and perfectly fine to begin with, the rhinestones add a festive touch to make this more suited to a party where you don’t want to be too dressed up, but still show your personality. This project would also be great to do on thrifted items to bring them back to life.

What do you think of my version of this gorgeous Miu Miu coat? If I was going to do it over, I would definitely try the same technique on a shacket, like in the inspiration photo. Did you try this DIY? Leave a comment or tag me on social media and let me know. I would love to see it!
